Bob Ross and his happy little Fro

Little known (happy little) fact about Bob Ross

He Didn't Love the Fro

It's hard to think of Bob Ross and not immediately key in on the giant bushy mushroom cloud of hair that exploded off of his head, and Ross knew it. Unfortunately, he also supposedly hated the haircut. Ross had an uncanny knack for marketing, though, so he knew that trimming his locks down to a more conservative hairdo would probably undercut part of his business. Ross decided to stick with his trademark look and even had his permed visage emblazoned on every tube of Bob Ross Inc. art supplies!

Bob Ross and four happy little homes :)

Four Happy Little Homes

A Tribute to the late Bob Ross

Bob Ross was a beloved PBS instructor who taught thousands to paint and entertained a generation of TV viewers. Through his show, The Joy of Painting, the soft-spoken man with the iconic afro brought painting into the homes of millions. We thought it only fitting to honor Bob Ross with a collection of his paintings depicting houses.

Bob Ross’s one-of-a-kind style was as admired as it was mocked. The “serious” art world scoffed at the friendly painter’s simple “wet on wet” painting technique, and various parodies of his show were created over the years. However, despite the laughs, Ross remained a man beloved by many and he remains pop-culture icon long after his death.

Many would be surprised to learn that the extremely mellow artist who painted “happy little clouds” was actually a military man who served 20 years in the Air Force.

It’s been almost 20 years since the painter’s death, but it’s easy to imagine him high above on a happy little cloud, painting a happy little house beside a happy little river without a care in the world. RIP Bob Ross. You are missed.

The end of Paper Week has arrived. I felt that it was fitting to wrap up the week with a recycled paper bag, bringing the week to a full circle! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Here is an amazing sculpture of a tree carved from a McDonald's paper bag, created by artist Yuken Teruya.

French art director and illustrator David Troquier, who goes by Troqman, has an impressive sense of humor. He creates scrapbook doodles and places them strategically among their surroundings to create new layers of meaning.

We have all heard of photo bombing, but illustrator David Troqman has perfected the art of cartoon bombing!

Paper in its Artistic Form!

 Paper in its Artistic Form

In light of this being my first year blogging, I am announcing paper week!

The 1st wedding anniversary is traditionally represented by a gift made of Paper. One might consider this gift to be a bit on the boring and unromantic side, but as an artist, I can think of many artistic and exciting ideas for gifts made from paper! Anywhere from airline tickets to an exotic island, theater tickets to your favorite production, or a rare drawing by Picasso. Paper can represent the beginning of a marriage, or it can be the beginning to a number of different of art projects. This week I will be visiting Paper, in its artistic form!

Break free from boring paper ideas and create something amazing! (but don't run with scissors, that's taking it too far)

Obscure Jobs in the World of Art, Chandelier

Obscure Jobs in the World of Art

There are lots of artistic jobs in the world, and making chandeliers is a very unique and obscure job! But also creative and possibly lucrative.

Created by Thyra Hilden and Pio Diaz, “Forms of Nature” chandelier is a beautifully designed bundle of white tangled branches, casting shadows on the walls that look like forest trees.

My favorite lights are cheeky, stylish pendant lights based on iconic British hats and are made from 100% wool and have aluminium lining. These hats can be purchased here.

This is a career choice for several artistic souls. And for these few, a wise one it was. Perhaps this is a future career for you, or you will come up with your own obscure job in the art world!
